Life on the road can be a bit challenging at times for today’s professional truck drivers. From finding the best traveling route to trying to eat right and avoiding distractions, the smallest of issues can all start to add up.
The good news is there’s an app for that. Yes, there are mobile apps that can help truck drivers with many of their ongoing tasks. Some apps are even designed specifically with the truck driver in mind. Truck driver apps? You bet!
Here at Paramount Freight Systems, an all owner-operator transportation company, we are always looking for ways we can help our drivers. That’s why we’re sharing this list of helpful apps that our owner-operators can use out on the road. Check out our list and comment below with any other apps you find helpful.
Stay on Track with TruckerTools
Looking for an accurate list of truck stops along today’s driving route? How about turn-by-turn directions, up-to-date traffic and weather reporting and the latest diesel fuel prices? You can find these and more with the TruckerTools app. It is touted as providing the most complete data in the country with daily updates, including hourly updates for fuel prices. You can also use TruckerTools to find truck wash locations as well as weigh scales, rest areas and the nearest Wal-Mart. Need help with permits? TruckTools can help with that. Heading to your favorite truck stop for lunch or dinner? Check TruckTools for coupons or specials that can save you money.
Drive Safely with FleetSafer
We all know how dangerous driving and texting is. Even a few seconds can be crucial when you’re driving a truck. The FleetSafer app takes care of that for us, eliminating the temptation to text, email or surf the web while we drive. This app allows you to block texts and emails, even calls while driving, even sending an automatic reply of “I’m driving.” Your phone becomes functional again when your truck stops.
Stay Healthy with FatSecret
Eating right can be a challenging task for truck drivers. Hours are often long and access to restaurants is limited by parking issue and highway exits. Drivers can use the FatSecret app to look up nutrition information for foods found at most restaurants and scan barcodes on packaged foods for instant nutrition information. Just how many calories are in that ready-to-heat burrito? This free app is also great because it allows you to track your total daily calories, fat and carbohydrates, as well as the calories you burned through exercise.
What do you think of this list of truck driver apps? We know there are more helpful apps for truck drivers. Comment below with your favorite app or reach out to us on any of our social media channels. Got questions about becoming an owner-operator? Contact us today.
