Get Into the Action

Truck Racing

If you missed the inaugural event and some of the initial action, don’t worry you aren’t out of luck yet. There are still some major events coming up in the fall. But let’s take a look at some of the action early this year.

The Meritor ChampTruck World Series is a pretty exciting name and once you see the trucks and the events, you’ll understand just how intense this racing can be. The inaugural event was held on April 26 at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, New Jersey. Mike Morgan won the race followed by Rick Proffitt and Mike Ryan respectively. The second event was held at Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows, California. The next event took place at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Colorado Springs, Colorado on May 29-31.

Mike Ryan is actually a well-known and the world’s premier stunt truck driver. If you are interested in trucking stunts that have been performed in various movies take a look at another one of our blog articles.

Ten events will conclude with the Meritor ChampTruck Series National Championship at Las Vegas Motor Speedway from Oct. 30 through Nov. 1. Drivers will have to earn and accumulate points throughout the series for the national championship event.

How Can You Get Involved?

Race teams will include a mix of amateurs and professional drivers. Some teams are being developed and sponsored by truck manufacturers, large trucking companies and dealerships. There are additional teams that belong to small fleet businesses, repair shops and independent racers as well. Any conventional or cab-over truck that is at least five years old can race in the Meritor ChampTruck world Series events!

The thing to keep in mind is that unlimited budgets and deep pockets from the backing companies won’t win the races alone. There are very strict rules on engine and chassis development and the goal is to equalize the competition for all teams regardless of budget. The organization wants to keep the race about the driving, not who’s got the biggest engine or the most money to burn.

Start building your team today and you can enter for next year’s series!
